The New England Patriots have made a series of personnel moves to try and bolster their roster in the wake of two major injuries and to compensate for weaknesses realized in their season opening win at Buffalo.
Shane Vereen, he of the broken bone in his wrist, has landed on the short-term Injured reserved list - which means that he will be eligible to return only after a period of eight weeks, which puts his time table to return in time to participate in the Monday night contest with Carolina in mid-November. The move frees up an active roster spot, which the team filled by re-signing tight end Matthew Mulligan.
Mulligan is a three year veteran out of the University of Maine and is known for his feisty temperament and vicious blocking - he also has decent hands but at 6' 4" and 270 pounds, inline blocking is his forte.
The team also re-signed University of Maryland defensive tackle A. J. Francis and assigned him to the Practice squad - and released wide receiver Quentin Sims to make the spot available for Francis.
No word has surfaced as yet regarding the status of either wide receiver Danny Amendola or tight end Rob Gronkowski, both of whom were listed as having limited participation in today's walk through. Amendola played through a groin strain in the season opener, but Gronkowski had not suited up for any preseason games nor the game in Buffalo.
Stand by for more roster moves as the team prepares for it's Thursday night game, hosting the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium.
