Patriots, inclement weather awaiting Jets at Gillette

For the second Thursday night in a row, Mother Nature's fury could affect an National Football League game.

Severe weather, including torrential rains and gusting winds could impact tonight's NFL Network weekly showcase, as the New England Patriots host the New York Jets.

The severe weather comes in advance of a strong cold front pushing in from the northwest, generating widespread thundershowers all up and down the Atlantic seaboard - and could produce pockets of damaging winds, large hail and heavy rains.

On the opening Thursday night game of the season in Denver last week, the start of the game between the host Broncos and the visiting Baltimore Ravens was delayed for more than a half hour due to the danger of lightning strikes, and the timing of the approach of the cold front to Foxborough has the NFL keeping a close eye on the doppler.

Game time temperature is forecasted to be in the low 70's with nearly saturated air as the dew points will peak into the mid 70's, causing very damp conditions for the players - and with locally heavy rains forecast, the Gillette Stadium playing surface could become sodden.

The game is scheduled to begin at 8:25, and for those interested, you can keep an eye on the doppler radar here, courtesy of  stadiumforecast.com.
