Explosions Rock Boston Marathon, 2 Dead, Dozens Hurt

At least two explosions rocked the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon, injuring an unknown number of people.

About an hour after runners started crossing the finish line, blasts occurred a few seconds apart on opposite sides of the street, and occurred about 2:45 p.m., killing at least two people and wounding two dozen others. The race was halted after the explosions as was subway service into the area.

Paramedics were treating several victims at the scene, and police ordered onlookers to back away from the area. Troops from the Massachusetts National Guard were assisting police as well.

Boston Marathon officials posted on their Facebook page that the explosions were caused by bombs, but that has not been immediately confirmed.  The coordination of the two blasts, seemingly in tandem, are a classic military maneuver, the first blast blocking and halting progression of movement and the second blast 15 seconds later to box in and injure as many people as possible in a compressed area.

There are also reports that police have discovered another explosive device and detonated it.

Again, these are unsubstantiated reports.

Much more on this story as information comes available.
